It all began in 1964 with one man and a dream.

In the summer of 1964, Giovanni Gabriele arrived in the United States with optimism in his heart, determination in his veins and one simple goal: to open a successful restaurant where people come to feel regal.

 

For a decade, he spent time working and getting a handle on the Saint Louis dining scene, and in 1974 he opened Giovanni's on the Hill with just a few employees and a dream.  Forty years and counting, he has emerged as the "Flagship of the Hill."

 

The awards and honors bestowed on Giovanni and his restaurant are numerous.  He was a participating chef at President Reagan's inaugaration, has created a dish exclusively for Oprah Winfrey and appeared on her show with his son Frank, has been the winner of the coveted Mobil 4 Star award for 20 years, the AAA 4 Diamond award for 25 years, and is a perennial winner of both the Holiday Award and the Dirona Award.  This list goes on and on.

 

The key to Giovanni's success is quite simple.  He lives and breathes his restaurants.  Giovanni's restaurants have become the symbol of his longstanding philosophy: "Treat all of our guests as celebrities, and always do better today than you did yesterday."
